ABOUT Cookstown's Boonanza
Each year, the Saturday before Halloween, the merchants of Cookstown get together to celebrate Halloween with the children in the area. Children in costume along with their parents go door to door trick-or-treating at the shops in the village. It's a great way to get to know the amazing, unique shops we have in town and show off your costume creativity. Games and a free hotdog bbq are hosted at the Cookstown and District Chamber Office where you can pick up maps of participating businesses.
Our 2020 Event
In 2020, while the world was in various stages of lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic we had to change the focus of the Boonanza. Instead of trick-or-treating in and out of every shop the Chamber of Commerce hosted a great pumpkin giveaway. Pumpkins filled the flower planters along Queen St and were free for children of the village to take home to carve into jack-o-lanterns. We gave away 100 pumpkins! No matter the situation we always find a way to celebrate!
Happy Halloween!
Thanks to all of the kids who dressed up and the parents who helped them! We saw some amazing costumes today!
Huge thanks to our councillor, Rob Nicol, for running the bbq and huge thanks to Cookstown Foodland for giving a discount on the hotdogs. Special thanks to Lynda Thompson who ran to buy more when we ran out!
Big thank you to the South Simcoe Theatre for loaning us their carafes for the hot chocolate.
Thanks to Ally Turtscher for taking photos on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce.
Thanks to the Cookstown Public Library for running special activities and taking photos today.
Thanks to the Town of Innisfil for printing posters for us.
Thanks to Christina Luck for updating our info board and helping decorate the Chamber Office.
Most of all, to the residents of Cookstown and visitors...
