What to do in Cookstown

Cookstown is known as a historic Village. It is a designated Heritage area. You can learn more about this on our History page.

This beautiful place has all the essentials! Pharmacy, building centre, restaurants, bars, fast food, a great school which hosts a gifted program, a library, curling club, parks, a splash pad, thrift stores,  shopping, health workers, spa's and salons, pet care, tech services and so much more. We pride ourselves on living in one of the friendliest places.
The TRANS-CANADA TRAIL runs right through Cookstown, we have set up a gazebo just off to the side of it; a great place for a picnic!

We host several fun events for our town, which is great for bringing in new faces to our businesses. 
We are home of the famous WING DING! This event has been going on for over 30 years!
It is the largest community wide yard sale in all of Ontario, possibly Canada. It was in the Guinness book of world records.
People come from all over to attend this event! We usually have an average of 10,000 visitors or more. We also provide a large vendors area. We had over 65 food, craft, clothes, and entertainers this past year, in our vendors area! You do not want to miss this event! For details go to our News & Events link at the top of the page.

GET ACTIVE

If you are an active person, come enjoy our part of the Trans Canada Trail. you will see people jogging, walking, biking, even snowmobiling on the trail throughout the year. There are even hidden treasures throughout our town and on the trail, if you do Geocaching! if you have a smartphone you can go Geocaching! We are a family friendly community. We have 3 parks, a dance studio, and a Curling Club. There is also a boxing club, Yoga studio, and Volley ball group held at the School in the evenings for adults and children. There is even a Lady who runs a Biggest Loser weigh in 2x a year in town. Be sure to join the Cookstown Facebook groups to keep connected and learn about these things.

Local Art & History

Cookstown is the home of many amazing Artists! We have a local Theatre , where they put on fantastic shows. We have shops where the owners, find and re-finish items and furniture.
Please see our directory for the business listings! There is an artist on the main street who offers lessons to all ages! 
There is also a local artist, Christina Luck  who is very involved with the Chamber. She is a part of an artist group called Brush and Hue. They have amazing classes!

Antiques & Shopping

Cookstown is a very old village with historical significance. We offer a self guided Historical walk via a brochure. You can find this brochure at the Chamber Office. It takes you through popular history on certain buildings within town; a nice way to learn about our Village and a great way to spend the afternoon. 
Antiques are kind of our thing! The Barn, also know as The Cookstown Antique Market has been here for over 25 years. paving the way for other antique shops! Please go to our Business Directory to see all the amazing businesses in town!

Kids

There are tons of after-school programs offered at our local Library for different ages and interests. They also offer a story time 2x a week for little ones, and The Early Years centre visits our library once a month or so. Once a year the library hosts a Splash Pad Picnic.

We have Girl Guides in Cookstown now!

Our school is amazing! Many involved parents, volunteers, enthusiastic staff, and a Gifted Program for Students! 
There are many home day cares and one through the School as well. 

Your children can take art lessons with Christina Luck.
Take Piano Lessons from our member Pam Arnold Playter at Howl with Pride Piano Studio.
Town of Innisfil has an ice rink for the kids behind the Library in the winter. 

The Cookstown Curling Club is now offering Youth Curling lessons. 
​Innisfil YMCA is 15 minutes from Cookstown.

Cooktown takes pride in eating local! We have amazing take out such as Luis Pizza and Master Burger.
